Bringing Creativity to Life: Tingalls’ National Fun at Work Day Challenge
At Tingalls, we love any excuse to blend creativity with a bit of fun, so for National Fun at Work Day, we decided to challenge ourselves with a mood board exploration exercise!
The Challenge: Design a Brand Mood Board for “Tail Waggers” Doggie Daycare
The team read through a short design brief for a fictional dog daycare called “Tail Waggers.” Then, independently, we brought our version of the new brand to life in a mood board containing fonts, colors, photos, textures, and more. The real challenge was that we had to do so in only 30 minutes!
The brief imagined Tail Waggers as a fun, energetic, and welcoming dog daycare. The brand needed to feel friendly, trustworthy, and joyful, creating a space where both dogs and owners would feel at ease.
As part of the exercise, we asked ourselves:
- Should the brand be bright and playful or calm and nurturing?
- Should the typography feel fun and quirky or modern and professional?
- What colors communicate trust, happiness, and energy?
- What do we want customers to feel when they walk in the door?
- What kinds of photos and textures best represent the daycare’s personality?
Different Approaches, Different Perspectives
Once the 30 minutes were up, we reconvened to compare our creations, and the results were fantastic! It was incredible to learn how each designer approached the brand creation:
- Tara focused on color first, creating a bright and energetic palette that reflected playfulness.
- Nicole started with typography, choosing fonts she felt were friendly and easy to read.
- Kallie researched photos, patterns, and illustrations to reinforce the daycare’s fun theme.
While all three contained vibrant colors and cutesy illustrations, each mood board definitely told a different story. This is exactly what makes a creative team of designers so valuable:
Multiple perspectives = More creative solutions & fresh ideas!
Creative challenges like this aren’t just about having a good time (although we definitely did!). They also remind us how important it is to embrace different creative approaches. Whether we’re designing a logo, a website, or a full brand identity, we know that no two designers will approach a project the same way—and that’s what makes collaboration so powerful.
