What Makes a Great Website?
Lots of business owners who meet with us know they need a website, but they don’t necessarily know what that website should look like, or what it has to include.
What they want to know, really, is what makes a great website design? Which elements make your online presence stand out?
The answer is going to differ a bit depending on the business and situation, but here are a few things your website simply must have to be exceptional:
A killer first impression – When someone looks at your website for the first time, they need to know that it’s for a great company, and to get an instant sense of what the personality of your business is like.
White space and readability – Business websites shouldn’t be cluttered or hard to read. You want lots of white space that invites viewers and makes them want to look around. Too much content can be daunting and confusing for your readers. Try shorter paragraphs, bullet points and links to interior pages to help guide your readers.
Custom images and layouts – Your website shouldn’t be generic, and you want the images on your pages to stand out and connect with customers. That means a layout that’s built from scratch for your specific company. Try to stay away from stock images and use photos of real employees engaged and working together. You’ll connect with your target market much better if they feel the imagery is genuine.
A good marketing plan – It doesn’t matter how great your website is if no one sees it. That’s why every great website should be backed by a strong online marketing plan that includes search engine optimization, consistent blogging or newsletters, and links to and from social media platforms.
